The Sugarplum Dinner – November 2013

One Mayfair played host to the first ever Sugarplum Dinner on November 20th 2013, which raised £257,000 for JDRF, the main type 1 diabetes research charity in the world.  As well as a who’s who of London’s A list, the dinner was also attended by the Home Secretary Theresa May (who has type 1), Lord Julian Fellowes, Pippa Middleton, and Poppy Delevingne. The dinner featured speeches by Sugarplum Children founder Jubie Wigan, as well as Justin Webb, presenter of BBC Radio 4’s Today programme (who’s son has type 1), and Karen Addington, Chief Executive of JDRF.  As well as The Sugarplum Tree of Prizes, there was an exciting live auction, hosted by Clive Anderson, which raised £157,000 – Lots included shooting with the Duke of Norfolk and his family at Arundel castle; an afternoon shopping at Selfridges with Poppy Delevingne as your stylist, and to have a character named after you in the best series of Downton Abbey so look out for an appearance by a Atticus Aldridge!  To finish the dinner, there was a juggling performance by Bibi & Bichi from Gifford’s Circus.
